2011 Bridal Veil Trends

January 31st, 2011 · 1 Comment

Historically, veils concealed the bride from the groom on the wedding day but have since transitioned into more of a fashion statement designed to attract attention rather than offset it. Veils add a sense of mystery and romance to the wedding day, taking any form the bride chooses to reflect her personal style. In keeping with this year’s tendency towards vintage, 2011 bridal veils will cater to traditional sensibilities with flowing silhouettes and lacy embellishments.

Long veils such as ballerina, chapel or cathedral styles are all the rage for 2011 weddings! These sweeping styles add a sense of pomp and formality to the overall look and create a traditional silhouette. The ballerina veil reaches to the ankles while the chapel veil reaches to the floor and the cathedral veil extends into a graceful train.

Birdcage veils are also trendy. Reminiscent of 1920′s starlets, these dainty veils range from full facial coverage to small pancake-styles.

Mantilla veils are regaining popularity due to their ultra-feminine look and traditional appeal. This style is usually made from lace, or features a lace edge, and drapes over the head like a scarf.

Many brides are choosing to make their own veils to ensure a cohesive ensemble and achieve a one-of-a-kind look. An elegant bridal veil is surprisingly simply to construct. Simply decorate your desired fabric with brilliant SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS crystal rhinestones or pearl cabochons for a beautiful result. Megan’s DIY Bridal Shoes

January 28th, 2011 · 1 Comment

Earlier this week I featured the beautiful bridal jewelry Megan, our launch coordinator here at Artbeads, designed for her spring 2010 wedding. Her elegant pearl and crystal jewelry set complemented her gown perfectly and offered delicate reflections of her green and yellow wedding colors. In addition to her own jewelry designs, Megan also wore sandals that were embellished by our Artbeads designer, Cheri.

Cheri embellished Megan’s strappy, white sandals with SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS flatback rhinestones in Jonquil AB. The yellow-green hue of these crystals worked perfectly with Megan’s color scheme while the AB finish added an enchanting, iridescent sheen.

Megan’s Bridal Sandals

For extra bridal bling, Cheri added a cluster of SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS pearls and crystals to each sandal.

GSP to Affect Bali and Hill Tribe Silver Prices

January 26th, 2011 · 3 Comments

Here at Artbeads.com, open communication with our customers is a top priority. We strive to build relationships with our customers based on trust and honesty and want to ensure everyone has a positive shopping experience with us. We’ve recently received an update regarding U.S. duty rates that will affect the prices of some of our items and wanted to share this information with you right away. As of January 1, 2011 imports that were previously duty free under the GSP (U.S. Generalized System of Preferences) are now subject to the standard duty rates. This will affect our purchasing prices for Bali and Hill Tribe Silver components, resulting in price increases on our site. Rest assured that if these components become duty free once again that we will decrease our prices accordingly.

These price adjustments will take effect in the next few days so now is your chance to stock up on your favorite components! Shop the Buy Like a Wholesaler Sale, through Monday January 31, 2011, to get great deals on Bali and Hill Tribe silver components. Please read on for the official update from our Chief Operating Officer, Michael Hervieux.

Since 1976 the U.S. Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) has been in place to promote economic growth in under-developed nations by offering duty-free entry into the US for a large number of products including, among others, Bali and Hill Tribe Silver. The federal government is required to continually reassess and reauthorize this program in order to keep it in place and over the years has let it lapse several times only to pick it up once again. Unfortunately, this program was most recently only authorized until December 31, 2010 so effective January 1, 2011 all imports of products previously covered by the GSP have been levied at the standard duty rates that are as high as 13.5%. There is no estimated date for when the GSP will be renewed or if it will even happen. Sadly, Artbeads finds itself with little choice but to raise the prices on these items to help cover this new cost. (These prices will be rolled out in the next few days so now would be a good time to stock up!)

As always Artbeads strives to be as open as possible about outside influences on prices. Over the course of the last year the sterling silver market has been highly volatile and has forced us to move our prices up significantly. However, when the silver market declines our prices have likewise been adjusted accordingly. As soon as we learn if and when the GSP will be renewed we will be sure to keep you advised and will roll back our prices accordingly.

-Michael Hervieux, Chief Operating Officer, Artbeads.com

Megan’s Bridal Jewelry

January 25th, 2011 · 2 Comments

Many fashion savvy and inventive brides are creating their own jewelry for their special day. This DIY approach not only saves money but ensures that the jewelry will reflect the bride’s personal style and perfectly complement the dress and overall feel of the wedding. Our launch coordinator here at Artbeads.com was married last spring and designed all of her bridal jewelry with beautiful results! Megan’s multi-stranded bracelet and necklace set is timelessly elegant while subtly reflecting her green and yellow wedding color scheme.

Megan with Her Husband James

The bracelet features three delicate strands of freshwater pearls, SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS crystals, yellow jade and pale green seed beads. Rather than using a multi-stranded clasp, Megan opted to connect all three strands to the same clasp so they would slightly overlap each other and lie close together on her wrist. Simply stunning!

Megan’s Bridal Bracelet

The necklace displays the same assortment of beads and is also three strands. Megan chose to finish her necklace with a multi-stranded clasp to allow each strand to drape along her neck separately for a glamorous effect.

Custom created bridal jewelry adds to that wow factor of the wedding day and gives brides a truly one-of-a-kind look!

Jewels for Hope Bridal Necklace

January 24th, 2011 · 3 Comments

Today I’m delighted to share a stunning necklace design from one of our Artbeads.com customers, Sandy. Featuring a graceful arrangement of SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS pearls among an array of twisted gold wire, this necklace is the epitome of bridal elegance. I love the sprinkling of jewel-toned SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS crystals and the timeless appeal of the vintage pendant, so majestic! I can definitely envision this necklace paired with a strapless lace wedding gown and glamorous up-do hairstyle.

Here’s what Sandy had to say about her bridal masterpiece:

I just started working with wire and I loved it. There is no wrong or right way to create with wire. I just let my fingers do the work. To me this necklace is elegant and classy and it is one-of-a-kind. I try to make one-of-a-kind pieces, I think everyone should feel special. I love working with Swarovski Pearls and Pendants. In this necklace I used Swarovski Cream Baroque Pearls, which I love, Swarovski Gold Baroque Pearls, Swarovski Cream Asymmetrical Pearls and Gold and White Crystal Pearls. I added Swarovski Siam and Topaz crystals to give the necklace a little pop of color. I linked it all to a beautiful vintage pendant. When I made this necklace everything just came out so right. I started making jewelry again (after 15 years) when I was taking care of my sick mother. Long story short, for every necklace I sell I donate a portion of the proceeds to Ct. Hospice. The last year of my mother’s life they really helped me.
-Sandy

To see more of Sandy’s work, check out her website Jewels for Hope, in addition to jewelry she also creates lovely greeting cards! We also want to congratulate Sandy for her upcoming feature in Wire Jewelry Magazine!

DIY Bridal Jewelry Designs, Make Peace with Your Budget!

January 20th, 2011 · No Comments

As a bride-to-be in the midst of wedding planning, I’ve discovered early on that it is hard to adhere to the wedding budget (or maybe this is just a personal problem!). It’s so easy to justify over-spending by indulging in the seemingless harmless mindset; “well I do only get one wedding…” And then there are all the hidden costs; gratuities, taxes, fees, deposits and in no time a girl can be seriously over-budget! For me, it’s become a balancing act, if I’ve over-spent in one area I need to get creative and save some money in another. If you can relate to my dilemma, the two ideas we’ve just launched in The Learning Center can help you get back on speaking terms with your budget.

Inspired by this year’s penchant for all things vintage, our designers created a lovely bridal necklace called New Victoria which incorporates pastel freshwater pearls with an elegant rose cameo for a soft, feminine result. This necklace also fulfills the traditional “something blue” requirement and costs less than $25.00 to make!

New Victoria Necklace Design

Perfect for a thoughtful, handmade bridesmaid gift, our next money saving idea is a fashionable ring design called Spring Lotus. This design flaunts brilliant SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS crystals and is created from wrapped wire, allowing you to customize the ring size for the ideal fit. Choose from our extensive selection of SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS XILION Settings to find the perfect match for your wedding colors! Bold, colorful rings are trendy right now so you can be sure your bridesmaids will enjoy their gift on many occasions and they don’t need to know it cost you less than $7.00 to make each one!

Spring Lotus Ring Design

Not only will these DIY ideas will help bring harmony to your wedding budget, they will also add the perfect finishing touches to your bridal wardrobe!

2011 Bridal Hair Piece Trends

January 19th, 2011 · No Comments

One trend I adore for 2011 is vintage-inspired hair pieces. Reminiscent of old Hollywood starlets, vintage hair pieces add an enchanting finishing touch to a bride’s ensemble and will work beautifully with most hair styles. Bridal hairpieces have added a sense of pomp and formality to weddings for ages and have echoed the pulse of fashion at the time. When my mother was married in 1982, feminine cowboy-style (I’m not sure how else to describe it?) bridal hats were in style, which she now understandably recalls with some embarrassment. Maybe this is one of the reasons the 1980′s are remembered as the fashion dark ages. So when I describe vintage bridal hair pieces, let’s just assume the bridal hats of the 1980′s are not on the guest list.

1980′s Bridal Hat

Birdcage veils are perhaps the hottest hairpiece trend for 2011 and the epitome of classic elegance. These dainty, ultra-feminine veils range from full face coverage to small pancake-styles, evoking nostalgia for the glamorous 1920′s.

Ornate hair combs, clips, pins and headbands are also popular. Featuring elaborate filigree detail and antique designs, these hair pieces are decorated with brilliant crystals and elegant jewels. If you’re up to making your own vintage-inspired hair piece, the components in the Kabela Design Section are perfect for creating this look.

Vintage-Inspired Hair Piece

Many 2011 brides are transforming a family brooch or heirloom into a fashionable hair piece. As an added bonus, this sentimental accessory can fill the role of the “something old” adage. Also, expect to see a lot of flowers and feathers accenting all types of hair pieces, adding a feminine softness to the overall look.
