Donna’s Story

March 31st, 2011 · 2 Comments

We’ve mentioned a few times on the Artbeads blog that we’d love to hear your stories about beading, whether it’s about the project that took on a mind of its own or simply what inspired you to start beading in the first place. This story is by Donna, and she talks a bit about her love for beading and everyday life. You can submit your own story to be reviewed at

Clear Salad Servers by Donna

I began beading over 20 years ago, as a young girl. I loved to make all kinds of jewelry and the shinier the better. Beading to me is a wonderful way to use your creative mind. I started beading a lot this past winter, which led me to open my Etsy shop in January. I’ve been a stay at home mom with my beautiful one year old daughter. She loves to watch me bead, in fact, I think she’ll be a creative one also!

I like to specialize in beaded wrapped serving ware. This is such a unique and special addition to any occasion. I love to make wedding cake servers and wine glasses. I believe that adding such beautiful and exclusive designs to special occasions makes guests feel special and unique. Each piece is made with a lot of love and careful design.

If you’re interested, you can see more of Donna’s work in her Etsy shop.

Spring 2011 Fashion Colors

March 30th, 2011 · No Comments

The fashion industry has established Honeysuckle as the number one color in fashion for this season, but there are plenty of other colors that are hot for spring 2011. According to Pantone’s Fashion Color Report in New York Fashion Week, the idea behind spring fashion colors is the chance for consumers to escape from everyday life and explore exotic places. The inspirations come from places like Africa, Turkey, and Peru, and include both warm and cool tones for nice combinations. Honeysuckle, a bright pink-red hue, is the top color choice overall. However, other warm colors like Coral Rose and Beeswax will be popular too. The more tropical feelings eluded from Blue Curacao (a shade similar to last year’s top color Turquoise) and Peapod are the suggested hues to pair with the lighter colors. Peapod is more of a spring green, fitting for the season. Lavender is another color that would go nicely with any of these shades. The trend also includes neutral colors that have transitioned over from fall, like the deep brown tone of Russet and neutral tones like Silver Peony and Silver Cloud. All of these colors can be mixed and matched with each other for beautiful contrast.

Disaster Relief for Japan

March 29th, 2011 · No Comments

Japan Relief

This blog post doesn’t really have to do with beads, but it does concern something that’s probably been on your mind lately.

Due to the catastrophic earthquake and tsunami, thousands in Japan are without food, shelter and water. We at are sympathetic of their situation and want to do what we can to assist in the charitable efforts, so we’ve gathered a list of charitable organizations that are heavily involved in the recovery process.

Take a few minutes to research how they provide help, and donate to the organization of your preference. Every penny helps, and as more donations add up, the people of Japan will receive the help they need to return to a more normal life.

Road to Tucson Sweepstakes Winner

March 24th, 2011 · No Comments

A huge CONGRATULATIONS to Diann O. from Florida for winning the Road to Tucson Sweepstakes! Diann and a guest will be heading to Tucson, Arizona for the 2012 Gem and Mineral Show to see thousands of jewelry, beads and gemstones. She will stay in a nice hotel to relax in after hours of walking, shopping and learning new beading techniques!

Diann is a beginning beader; starting just over a year ago when she took a class at a local bead shop to see if she could do it. Of course, she fell in love with beading! Her favorite jewelry to make are bracelets and simple earrings, and loves to sit down to design.

Diann is inspired by her best friend and carpool buddy and makes her a lot of jewelry. She’s hoping to bring her friend along to Tucson. Diann is thrilled and excited to see Arizona (she’s never been) and everything at the shows!

I’m so happy to share my Tucson experience this year and to send someone next year. I recommend attending this event to anyone who loves beads, jewelry, gemstones and fossils. Thanks to everyone who entered the sweepstakes, joined along on the Road to Tucson Virtual Roadtrip and purchased the Tucson Treasures! I hope you enjoyed it.

New Retro Copper Coin Beads

March 23rd, 2011 · No Comments

Buy Retro Copper Coin Beads

Give these fun retro copper coin beads a try as the focal piece in one of your spring or summer creations! You’ll find butterflies, beach babes, lock & key designs and more.

These beads are crafted using a special process. Two shallow copper domes are overlaid with a paper motif displaying a retro-inspired image. Then, the paper is coated in a special lacquer to make the bead waterproof and scratch resistant. The two copper pieces are later wire-wrapped together by hand. Since these beads are hollow, they are lightweight for their size.

The paper prints on each bead have plenty of character and detail. View them all on our website to see the variety available!

Customer Creation – Fabric Beads

March 21st, 2011 · 2 Comments

Alma Stoller's Fabric Beads

Design Partner Alma used the 24 Karat Gold-Plated Delicas that we gave her in a unique way – she sewed them onto cloth beads that she made herself! Alma used a full cotton ball for the center of each bead, but you could also use smaller sections of cotton for a smaller bead size. They’d be fun to use as dangles on a book bag or back pack! Check out her blog to see step by step instructions on how to create them.
