Adopt a Shelter Dog Month

October 19th, 2011 · 3 Comments

Do what you can to help support local animal shelters in finding loving homes for dogs. October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, a time dedicated to finding a furry companion in need of rescue. If your heart has already welcomed an adopted pet, browse some of our dog jewelry supplies and ideas that you can make and share. This is a great way to help raise awareness about the many animals in need of a good home.

You can visit petfinder.com to learn more about this holiday and to search for adoptable animals in your area. We know there are many cute kitties in need of homes, too, so you can start making jewelry for Adopt a Shelter Cat Month when it comes this June.

petfinder.com said it best when they wrote

… “when you adopt from a shelter or rescue group, you save a life — and un-break the heart of a dog looking for someone to love for a lifetime.”

I adopted a retired racing greyhound almost 7 yrs ago… one of the best decisions I ever made. And this week, I started the adoption process for another retired greyhound. These dogs are sweet and gentle and love to just be with you. They take retirement very seriously and need a forever home after their racing career is over! =)

One of the sweetest things my husband ever said to me was “Do you want to stop at the shelter and look for our next dog?” They live a short time and yet, fill our lives with love that lasts decades.

All my pets have charms and or beads on their collars. Because they’re special!

Thank you for reminding people to adopt a shelter dog! I have four; all different, all wonderful and all so full of love.
