Having lost my job, like many others, I find a need this year to craft my gifts. I recently entered a craft show at the local elementary and made a few dollars, but not enough to cover the cost of my materials, as I have some of my stamped necklaces left to sell. My personal favorite is a military dog-tag shaped blank stamped “MY HERO WEARS COMBAT BOOTS” and has added charms of a small heart, a star, and a peace symbol. The necklace is a ball chain. I would love more findings to let myself be even more creative. I guess you could say that my biggest inspiration this year is need.

I found I’m a steampunk kind of gal, so the trend in jewelry findings these days are great. There is so much that can be done with the mix and match of metals, design, etc. Your mind and creativeness is the only thing holding you back with all the great products out there like Nunn designs. Thanks

  1. what inspires the creations? the music in the christmas air? The excited feelings of shoppers and the twinkle of the lights on the christmas treee and houses? The decor and smiling faces! Plus whatever sparkly christmas cheer is bubbling inside of my mind!

Looking outside my window during the changing seasons gives me inspiration. All the colors and the starkness of the tree branches. The sun reflecting on the snow 🙂 early this year. I love the colors showing in my designs.

What inspires my gift giving creations this season are the different ages and personalities of the recipients. I am an avid machine knitter and jewelry maker. I combine the two crafts ( and several others like machine embroidery) by making the appropriate jewelry and embellishing my knits with beads and making all sorts of wild scarfs , sone thin ones that can sub for necklaces with the amazing embellishments that are now available.

Winter sunrises and sunsets are such a beautiful palette of colors to work with instead of the traditional holly berry and evergreen– but incorporating new/different pieces is truly exciting and inspiring at any time of the year. I would love to try the new Nunn pieces and see what they can do!!!

Im playing with texture in my designs at the moment, with everyone starting to wrap up, im bringing that element of warmth in to my Jewellery, by using lots of different media, that feel great next to the skin, ‘feel the heat without all the clothes’

I love to make jewelry! Each piece I design always finds an unique owner. Many times I give away jewlery that I am wearing and most of the time it is during this giving season. I don’t have a lot, but I know I have more then many others.

I’m inspired by the amazing colors and patterns I see all around me. It’s tricky finding beads that match the morning glory that grows by the porch, or connectors that look like bits of architecture, but when I do it’s fun to see the design I pictured finally come together.

The beautiful colors of nature inspire me the most. Walking along a beach with the beautiful colors of the sky, the water, the sand, and even the people are inspiring, for example. A stormy day brings the deep colors of grays, blacks, greens, and whites. Wrap them up with some sweet silver and you have an artistic stormy piece made in no time.

    • November 26, 2011

My inspiration comes from the beautiful colors of Christmas. Whether they be the traditional reds, greens, golds, or the icy coldness of the winter in the blues, whites, and silver.

  9. I am enjoying my newest hobby. My thoughts are on genealogy and heritage! All the fun ways to put the antique together, and maybe with something new! It would be so much fun to win!

  10. What inspires me during the holiday is just that: the holiday. During my busiest time of year, it’s nice to escape to my work station. Picture a girl with a content smile on her face putting together a pretty piece while the world behind her is in fast forward, she’s in slow motion. The chaos of the holidays makes me stop, breathe and take time to do what I love. Bead!!

  11. I love the amulets. something I have not tried yet.

What inspires my holiday designs is the holiday itself. When I was a child, Christmas was all about color: the big colored lights on the Christmas tree, adorned with years and years of ornaments in all shades and sizes, the small white lights brilliantly lining the streets downtown providing the perfect backlight for department store displays, the reflection of colors in icicles hanging slick and dangerous from store awnings and overhangs, and snow – real and faux. All year long I make colorful jewelry with a bit of an Africentric edge. At Christmas time, I rev up my displays with crystals and semi-precious stones that not only reflect the season, but also how I feel about this most wonderful time of the year.
Merry Christmas and Happy Kwanzaa to you all!!!!!
