Happy Hunger Games!

Cynthia Kimura, President and Chief Jewelry Designer for Artbeads.com, is so excited about the release of The Hunger Games (along with a few other people here at Artbeads) that she decided to create a necklace before the premiere. Here’s her story about the design.

I just finished this necklace based on The Hunger Games book. My kids have been so excited to see the movie and even re-read the 3 books. I read the books too and now I can’t wait to watch the movie to see the different costumes that were created by the author in the series.

For the necklace, I chose the 5mm Swarovski Fire Opal crystal beads to represent one of the hero’s’ suits, the 5mm black TierraCast spacers and the black suede cord for the District 12 coal mines. I stamped one of my favorite quotes, “girl on fire,” on a round washer blank. I then cut out a picture of the book and glued it to the inside of the washer, then glued another washer on the back. To finish the pendant I used a bail glue pad and adhered it to the back washer. My 12-year-old daughter just loved it, so guess who will get the necklace!

We plan to go see the movie next week, and I will probably be inspired to make more jewelry.
