Cowboy and Cowgirl Accessories

October 2nd, 2012 · No Comments

If you’re planning to be part of a horse show or make a statement at the rodeo, make sure your attire is unique and show stopping! This can be achieved by adding your own pizzazz to a blouse, belt buckle and more. A western pleasure horse show is just one example of where your presentation is just as important as your horse’s, and you can even embellish your horse tack to match!

Blouses

Wow everyone with a sparkling top. It’s easy with Swarovski crystal flatbacks! These small rhinestones are made from faceted Austrian crystals and are higher quality than others, so you know your outfit will be special. There are two choices for Swarovski flatbacks—Hotfix and glue-on Flatbacks. Hotfix flatbacks have heat-activating glue on the back, which would be easier for applying to a shirt. Flatbacks are loose rhinestones that could be glued using E6000 Adhesive to leather and other surfaces for an abrasion-resistant finish. All you need is a plain blouse to start with and a quilting pen or disappearing marker. If using Hotfix flatbacks, the BeJeweler Stone Styler tool will help set the flatbacks in place. You can learn how to use a BeJeweler by reading our Handy Tip in the Learning Center. Use a toothpick with beeswax, or a jewel setter, to glue the flatbacks in place. Swarovski also makes sew-on flatbacks if you want a little bigger sparkle on your shirt.

Belts and Belt Buckles

The first thing to get noticed at a rodeo is the belt buckle. Even if you’re not part of the show, you can still grab the spotlight with a colorful, embellished buckle made from flatbacks. Find a blank belt buckle (like a bezel pendant) that can be filled. Next, print out a cool pattern—or design your own—and arrange your flatbacks accordingly. Glue them in place and finish with a polishing cloth to revive their shimmer. Have some western memorabilia you want to preserve? Fit a picture or other small components in the buckle and fill it with resin. Learn how to use resin for craft projects in our Handy Tip. You can even decorate the belt itself with flatbacks to make it unique, too!

Don’t forget to bling out your horse as well! Embellish the bridle and saddle in the same fashion as your belt and buckle for a professional presentation. If you’re feeling extra adventurous, put a little finishing touch on your spur straps and hit the show. If you have other ideas for cowboy and cowgirl accessories, let us know!
