Branching Out with Beads Giveaway

Branching out with Beads Giveaway

This contest is now closed. Thanks to everyone who participated, and congratulations to our winner, Sundari!

Beads are not only wonderful for jewelry designs, but they can be used to spice up craft projects, too! An art quilt can shine with beaded accents, bookmarks become personal with dangling charms and beautiful buttons can be used in a multitude of projects. Add flatbacks to picture frames, decorate everyday objects with cabochons or use crystal yarn in fiber arts. It’s time to use beads in unexpected ways with our Branching out with Beads Giveaway. One lucky winner will receive buttons, seed beads, adhesive, flatbacks and more to make your craft projects shine even brighter. Leave a comment below sharing a new way to use beads in craft ideas. This can be an idea you’ve had or something you’ve actually done in your own craft projects. Feel free to also share pictures of your ideas in action on Facebook! Only one entry per person, please.

This contest runs from Thursday, March 21, 2013 to Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at 11:59pm PST. Please see our official contest rules for more details.

I’ve made bookmarks and key chains and tie tacs for my husband (the findings for these, by the way, are incredibly hard to find).

I’ve begun making Christmas ornaments for my children. They are adults now, and they like having something so “family” for their own trees.

I have made wine glass charms, napkin rings, camera bag charm and a watch band. I would like to make a lanyard and some other unique items with beads in the future.

  3. Nowadays, I tend to use my beads for jewellery and knitting projects (rather than stitching them on, I slide tiny beads onto my wool for a really subtle effect – and they don’t fall off that way!) but when we were little, my sister and I used to use seed beads as money for our barbies to use in my treasured Barbie Boutique!

I use beads on glass votive candle holders (sometimes peyote stitched, sometimes with terrifically tacky tape), I’ve sewn them onto the collars and sleeve edges of plain tshirts, used them in cross stitch and embroidery, I put them on wands, and use them with pins stuck into satin balls, they embellish altered art, put on frames. I use beads on just about everything.

Most often I make beaded bookmarks from leather book thongs to shepherd’s hooks and jumbo paperclips. For Mother’s Day, I’m incorporating beads, chain, charms, mismatched tea cups and saucers and making hanging bird feeders. Excited to see how they turn out!

I made my dog a collar. It’s a year old now and still going strong. Hmmm, Time for a new one? Also, I made my own pattern to make a beaded bag. Long project. But one I’m looking forward to.

I use my beads for jewelry, window ornaments and embellishing clothes. I study West African drumming and play the djembe – I want to figure out a nice way to embellish my drum bag with beads!

I’ve always want to do a lamp shade with flat backs on a clear surface so the light would shine through the crystals and shine color around a room. Love the idea.

Aside from using beads to make jewelry I also use them to make dangles for crotchet cross body bags that I make. I would love to make a sparkly, beaded lamp shade or a wind chime with different colors of glass beads and shells.

I was given a wall hanging that has glass beads woven in. I have different textured yarns in shades of purple that I want to make a bib necklace of some day and decorate with left over crystals and beads.

Translucent beads, especially Swarovski crystals, make beautiful suncatchers and those dangly things you hang from your rear-view mirror. Lately I’ve been making and selling boot bling too — seems the “blingier,” the better!

My newest project this spring is creating garden bling. Beaded macrame (hanging) baskets, bejeweled garden stakes (using wire wrapping techniques to create dragonflies, butterflies, etc) and re-purposing plastic pots with sparkly crystals is so much fun! You’ll be the envy of the neighborhood : )
