With Thanksgiving less than a week away, my thoughts are turning toward Christmas. It’s almost time to decorate the tree! As part of my family’s tradition, we pile up smoked oysters, pickles, crackers and little smoked sausages on a tray (a tribute to my Norwegian grandfather’s taste in food) and turn up the Christmas music.
Our tree is usually a scraggly looking affair, the better to load the spaces between its branches with an assortment of ornaments acquired over the years. It’s crowning feature is a carefully packed away set of colored lights with over five different settings, ranging from slowly blinking to a blinding display of flashing color. People laugh when they see it, but we love it because it brings back so many fond memories.
Your tree may be more like my grandmother’s, a work of art with carefully chosen ornaments all set to a particular theme, or somewhere between the two. If you’re looking for something to add to its branches, be sure to explore the Holiday and Christmas Craft Designs in the Learning Center. You’ll find a fun collection of garlands, ornaments, cards and tags.
