The bubbly blond Doris Day was adored by American for her girl-next-door looks and sunny smile. The singer and actress remained stylish on and off the set, but today we’ll take a look at some of the most memorable pieces she modeled on the screen.

Although she was surrounded by Hollywood glam, Doris refrained from wearing jewels from head to toe for the most part. Her clean, sophisticated fashion sense is a look that later generations can admire. Let’s explore some of her most eye-catching pieces.

Lover Come Back

Her beaded shirt beautifully blended with the classic pearls Doris wore. You can achieve this look by creating a simple pearl drop earrings and a multi-stranded bracelet. Try Swarovski crystal pearls in Cream.

From fancy cocktail rings to understated brooches, Doris Day kept it classy. Gold and crystal clear diamonds are always a safe combination for elegant outings or even for the office. Make it part of your wardrobe by filling a bezel with tiny flatbacks and securing with resin, or use jewelry wire to wrap crystals in a pointed cluster for a new ring.

Pillow Talk

Some of the most colorful pieces came from Pillow Talk. From the multicolored, multi-strand pearl necklace to the breathtaking turquoise collar, each piece influenced fashion today. If you have the wrapped loop technique down for creating drop dangles and use a Magic Finding for multi-stranded designs, each of these necklaces can be recreated in no time.

The picture in the beaded top is from “Lover Come Back”. The next row – the gray blouse looks like “Midnight Lace” and the coat with fur beside it is “Pillow Talk”

I have always insisted that Doris Day is THE MOST underrated singer/actress in the history of pop culture! What a fabulously SMOOTH voice, especially in the earlier days of her career. Listen to the songs of the late 40s, early 50s and you will see what I mean. A pleasure to see your tribute to her style and grace. It prompts me to write of my own dedicated admiration of this timeless performer in our Spellbound Beads blogs and perhaps design some of our jewelry in a Doris Day theme. I will surely pass on your link today. Thanks!

Thank you for your nice piece on Doris Day. She really is a timeless icon. All of the jewels which were featured in Pillow Talk came from Laykin et Cie. In fact there is a screen credit in the film. There are a number of pieces which we still produce to this day which were featured in the film. See : http://www.laykin.com
